The device here is fairly simple: the graffiti artist’s message is “I exist, this is who I am,” expressed through tags, whereas this tagger has expressed that this can of spray paint is literally what he is. Again, the multiple layers of tags suggest the struggle to establish this identity to me. The way the wall cuts away a little bit in from the right creates a very photographic effect, making the work more “real” by partaking of the documentary capacity of the photographic.
