I try to achieve the same vignetting effect that Atget accomplished by tipping the lens of his 8”x10” by actually tipping my entire camera up at an angle through a portico on the stairway. This shot might have been much better with a few passers by going up and down, but unfortunately, the fates did not oblige. Still, I think it documents very well how graffiti changes a space, making it more intimate but more intimidating at the same time. Again, the over-exposure in the bottom right makes the image obviously photographic, so that this picture partakes in some of the authenticity inherent in the documentary capacity of the camera.
